GDG Kolkata Hosts ‘Build with AI’ Event at Sister Nivedita University with Strong Student Participation
Kolkata: Google Developer Groups (GDG) Kolkata successfully hosted its “Build with AI” event at Sister Nivedita University, drawing a full-house audience and strong participation from students and technology enthusiasts.
The event showcased growing interest in artificial intelligence, with a large number of students actively engaging in sessions focused on practical AI applications and emerging technologies.
Key Sessions Highlight Emerging AI Trends
One of the standout sessions was led by Nikhilesh Tayal, who spoke on “Building AI Agents with Self-Managing Memory.” His use of a virtual memory analogy to explain two-tier memory architecture made a complex concept accessible and practical for attendees.
Another notable session by Arindam Majumder focused on “Realtime Voice Agents with LiveKit & Gemini Flash Live Preview.” The demonstration highlighted how streaming audio directly to Gemini eliminates the traditional speech-to-text to language model to text-to-speech pipeline, significantly reducing latency and offering a glimpse into the future of voice AI systems.
Focus on Hands-On Learning and Real-World Deployment
The event covered a wide range of topics including AI agents, memory architecture, Gemini, Vertex AI, and Firebase Extensions, with a strong emphasis on real-world deployment and hands-on learning. Participants were exposed to practical use cases and tools shaping the next phase of AI innovation.
Community Engagement and Event Experience
The event stood out not only for its technical depth but also for its vibrant community participation. Attendees appreciated the well-organized sessions and the opportunity to interact with experts and peers in the AI ecosystem.
A small but appreciated detail was the thoughtfully arranged lunch, offering a refreshing change from standard event catering.
Areas for Improvement
While the event received positive feedback overall, attendees suggested better adherence to session schedules and improved camera placement to ensure unobstructed views of speakers and presentation screens.
Looking Ahead
The success of the “Build with AI” event highlights the growing momentum of AI-focused community initiatives in Kolkata. With increasing interest among students and professionals, such events are expected to play a key role in building a strong local AI ecosystem.
GDG Kolkata’s initiative reinforces the importance of community-driven learning and collaboration in advancing technology adoption and innovation.
